Pete, Chuck and Tap
Are our most recent resident cats.
And although they weren’t my personal choice
They’ve settled here, that’s that.
These three arrived from varied sources
Invited by family who’ve since departed
To dorms and rooms– so far away
To life apart, so quickly started.
Peter, Charles and Tapioca
Do their best to fill the void
They run and play and make a mess
Their antics, we’ve enjoyed.
To each I’ve said, “I like them best!”
And at the moment it seemed well-founded
But as things changed, lives rearrange
It appears my choice was ungrounded.
To those who think, I’ve settled for
A furry substitute household
You don’t know me or my growing heart
Or the joys I’ve left untold.
Pete, Chuck and Tap
Are our most recent resident cats.
And although they weren’t my personal choice
They’ve settled here, that’s that.
Enjoyed your poem. We love our cats, too–Max, who is almost 18 and Dottie who is 11/2.
Thanks for stopping by _ look forward to more Prairie Chats.
