Prairie Wasps Dancing In The Air
Flight control notified, landing in progress.
The paper comb, almost all gone for the year.
Aggressive disposition is their norm.
Fierce in battle, distributing countless stings
No barb involved, just the poison he slings. Six legged flyers, rear pair dangling
Flight is steady, two wings lifting
Slender waists elongated sections
Each engineered to make inspections. Paper fortresses lodged under the soffit
Hanging depots, yellow soldiers emit
Warm days spent in search of sugary nectars,
Each blossom is checked by flying inspectors. Falls first chill causes actions most frantic
A final push, the tempo grows manic.
Mate with the queen, drink the fragrant rum
Winters march, warrior’s death is sure to come.
