Halloween Joy

Old Fashion Rhyme

Seventeen spirits came to our door
All left with candy, some wanting more.
Toddling children, all with a sack
Followed by parents escorting their pack.

Hands smudged and sticky, they returned to their homes
Lip-smacking sweetness all dancing like gnomes.
Thank heaven for parents, who moved with a plan
And loaded them safely back into their van.

and then a Tanka

Small playground shadows
dressed for their costumed delight
-whispers in the night

Anxious souls peer through shutters
Offer treats by porch-light glow

Dēofol’s ghoulish night
When the forests are spooky
He strolls in delight

Miseries to all that tread
When persons dare walk with dead
