A brother’s words on the phone…

Under spring’s blue skies
I paused, looking at lilacs
-Just two months to live
Lightning struck words changed my way
A sibling’s loss – days away

Doves sit in treetops
Spying sunrise through the clouds
-Maple leaves quiver
Morning flows through open sash
Raspberries picked the night before

Ronovan Writes Haiku Challenge 312 – Intent / Thought
Distant meadowlark’s
Sweet singing captures my thoughts
-Who cares the intent
No reason for mountain view
No answers for a sunrise

Grass covered pathways
On my way to coming home
-When fishing was free
Wandering discoveries
Wishing for a second chance

Thinking of that day…
Porcelain tea cup
left by Grandma’s parlor chair
-Is empty today
Shivers from the winter wind
Bronze bell tolled the warmth away

Around Me…
so much happening while I stay home, avoiding the Corona Virus! In the background, the news drones on while elsewhere the death toll rises.
August whirlwinds drift
above farmer’s black tilled fields
-distant church bells toll
Prairie birds don’t heed the sounds
they’re just like the clouds above

“Men of ill judgment ignore the good that lies within their hands, till they have lost it.”
-Sophocles
When we close our eyes
the earth still circles the sun
-dreams all start again
Same path taken everyday
Much to see along the way

Season’s bitter wind
have laid-bare the pin oak’s limbs
-chattering squirrels
Last act of the winter’s time
clears the way for springs new leaves

Tarnished silverware
Found in my mother’s cupboard
-Smells of Thanksgiving
Memories of special days
Are saved in so many ways

Clean kitchen table
with leftovers packed away
-Pictures on a phone
