Quadratum Altare (Square Altar)

A soldier will fight long and hard for a bit of colored ribbon.
– Napoleon Bonaparte

Painful Memories No Winners That Night!

– Clarence Holm

They fought wildly that night
Fists clenched, eyes shut so tight.
A schoolyard challenge had been posted,
In reply to secretive thoughts – boasted.

Young men driven by urge
Punching each as tempers surge.
Broken noses, bloodied eyes
Till one finally – refuses to rise.

Pride was the token offered for pain
Classmates cheering, the words profane.
Ring men assisting, pushing them forward
Ear split open, pain ignored.

Blood splattered offering late last night
Primal compulsions were at the fight.
Squared ring altar, arm held upright
Victor is crowned, madman’s delight.

A Summer Song
Original Acrylic Artwork By Stuart Glazer

I heard a song
A simple melody
That held my thoughts today.

Like a breeze
It tumbled along
In perfect harmony.

When it soared
Through blue skies
The clouds drifted along.

And I dreamed
Of yesterday
With no plans in the way

With each verse
Wondrous sights
Changed my course and will

As I aged
The songs refrain
Grew sweeter with each movement

And my heart
Sang along
Till time went on it’s way

The Player

– Clarence Holm

It hurts when I remember
What’s lodged so deep inside.
The gates that keep the screams at bay
And lock my soul away

I made the choice so long ago
I’d hoped it‘d be forgotten.
A scene of mine – casual words spoken
Bound by acts and left there as a token.

I dream of yesteryear to come
Allowing me redemption
To change the deeds I’ve left undone
One time before I’m gone.
